"Original director Hugh Wooldridge returns to a work that means a great deal to him and gives the work a carefully considered production, given a sheen of class through Caite Hevner’s projections, delineating several settings through well-realised paintings of among others stern bearded headmasters and vases of colourful flowers."

-Kris Hallett, WhatsOnStage

"Starting life as a panelled dressing room painted blue-grey, with empty frames on the walls, [the set] is constantly transformed by Caite Hevner's projections. The bad taste of Bertie's living quarters is reflected in a series of crushingly boring sports-scene landscapes and, later, some wonderfully odd animal portraits, including a wonky ermine and several toy dogs with huge, fluffy bat ears. At other points, it becomes the stuffy, floral-drenched environment of the stately home Bertie is visiting - the house's Capability Brown lawn visible through the windows beyond - and, most amusingly, a dark parlour lined with portrait upon portrait of a disapproving aunt. The women all stare down in stern horror as Bertie recounts an episode of social failure in front of a room of real-life aunts."

-Rosemary Waugh, The Stage
